We want every recipe and idea on Fork & Kite to be safe, honest and useful. Here’s what you should know before you cook, play or buy.

General information, not professional advice

Everything on Fork & Kite is for general information and inspiration. It isn’t medical, nutritional, dietary or safety advice for you or your child. Always follow the advice of your doctor, pediatrician or a registered dietitian, especially for babies, toddlers, pregnancy, allergies or medical conditions.

Allergies and ingredients

  • Our recipes may contain or come into contact with common allergens, including milk, eggs, wheat (gluten), soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, fish and shellfish.
  • Always read the labels on the products you buy. Brands change their ingredients and manufacturing.
  • Calls like “kid-friendly” or “picky-eater OK” are our opinion about taste and texture. They don’t mean a food is safe for every child.
  • Whole grapes, nuts, popcorn, hard raw vegetables and similar foods can be choking hazards for young children. Cut and serve food in a way that’s safe for your child’s age.

Nutrition information

If we show nutrition information, it’s an estimate calculated from typical ingredients. It will vary with the brands, amounts and swaps you use. Please don’t rely on it for medical or dietary decisions.

Food safety

  • Cook meat, poultry, seafood and eggs to safe internal temperatures (for example 165°F / 74°C for chicken) and check with a food thermometer.
  • Wash hands and surfaces, keep raw and cooked foods apart, and refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours.
  • Cooking times are guides. Your stove, oven and pans may cook faster or slower.

Kids in the kitchen and activities

“Kid jobs”, crafts, games and outings are meant to be done with an adult. An adult should always handle knives, heat, hot liquids and appliances, and decide which tasks fit their child’s age and abilities. Check that materials are age-appropriate and supervise young children around small parts. Outdoor ideas depend on local conditions and rules, so use your judgment about weather, traffic and safety.

AI-styled photos and illustrations

Many images on Fork & Kite, including our food photos, are AI-styled images created from our recipes, and our illustrations, including our mascot Kite, are made with the help of AI tools. We work to keep each image faithful to its recipe, but your dish may look a little different. We label AI-styled images where they’re used and will replace them with real photos over time. AI is a helper here, not the author: our recipes and ideas come from a real family and what works for us.

Affiliate links and sponsorships

Some pages may include affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. If we work with a brand or are paid to feature a product, we’ll say so clearly on that page. We only recommend things we think are genuinely useful for families, and our opinions are our own.

Accuracy and changes

We do our best to keep recipes, prices, dates and event details accurate, but things change and mistakes happen. If you spot one, please tell us at [email protected] and we’ll fix it.

Your responsibility

By using our recipes and ideas, you accept responsibility for how you use them. Fork & Kite isn’t liable for any injury, illness, allergic reaction, damage or loss that results from following our content. See our Terms of Use for details.
